Small acoustic gigs are me fave - where are they going to happen now. And bands that can't get gigs anywhere else are not likely to have a following outside of their immediate friendship groups, and are thus less likely to steal audiences from other venues. Plenty of new bands get gigs in other venues. I'm not saying that bands without large followings don't get gigs, I'm suggesting that bands who don't get gigs won't have large followings. Although you do meet a good deal of the same people at gigs, I don't think it's completely like that. Some people may only go to one or two gigs a year, or they may only go to, say, hip hop gigs, but that doesn't mean they can't go to other gigs, and that their circumstances or tastes won't change. It would make more sense to play parties, hand flyers, charidee gigs, just get out there and talk to people, instead of tapping away on the internet.

The majority of people who put on gigs in oxford don't make any money and barely cover costs so why should we sit back and let a company that has a history of shafting both promoters and gig goers take punters away from the other venues and give them the opportunity to shaft us again. I mean, do any bands really have that much trouble getting gigs at the moment.

There are other players here who are better than me for sure but i seem to get the gigs. I might suggest that the players in your town get together and do something about the low paying gigs. This in turn limits the number of venues/gigs available for the musicians in this area with the ones that draw large numbers of people getting priority bookings.
